Purpose

I made Comprehend-Reading because I saw a gap, from rudimentary reading skills to mastering reading comprehension.
Reading comprehension encompasses many skills such as general knowledge, vocabulary, inference and organization of information. Specifically, I wanted to create a resource for parents like myself to help their children, or for adults like myself who love reading but have always struggled with reading.

Through the blog, I want to share some research based methods I have learned from wonderful teachers, schools and researchers. My modest goal is to have some tool to enable parents to create or modify reading materials for their children or themselves to suit their reading levels and interests. I have benefited greatly from language models which break down so many ideas with infinite patience. But it takes patience and love to really nurture skills. I think nothing can replace 1:1 attention of someone who really cares.

What is my not-so-modest long term goal? It’s going to sound grandiose, but I want everyone to live with dignity and a sense of wonder and adventure. I want people to feel that there is no limit to their capacity to learn. Education is not just about creating productive workforce, it should also be nurturing, giving tools for everyone to flourish and live meaningful lives.
